John Russell at September Chapter Meeting
On Monday, September 27, John Russell, ASA Director of Government Relations, met with chapter and regional members to discuss ASA's government relations program. Russell updated members on congressional legislation and regulatory practices impacting the profession. Members questioned Russell on the Dodd-Frank Reform Act, proposed changes to USPAP 2012-2013, and IRS Circular 230, among other topics. Russell encouraged members to provide input on how the government relations department can best serve their needs. You can view John's message on ASA's You Tube Channel.
Professional Achievement: Certification
Congratulations to Gerald H. Coyne, Jr., ASA at Valuation Research Corp. in Trenton (at left in photo) and Kent R. Amarante, AM at Federal Appraisal & Consulting in Whitehouse Station, NJ (at right), shown receiving their advancement certificates from past President, Kyle S. Garcia, ASA at the Chapter's December 2008 Holiday Meeting at the Harding Gallery in Morristown.
Gerald, who achieved certification as an Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA), and Kent, who qualified for the Accredited Member designation (AM) are both Machinery & Technical Specialties /Machinery & Equipment appraisers. Their certifications are marks both of individual achievement and of assurance to their clients.
The certifications are based on appraisal education, experience, intensive written and verbal examinations, and submission of acceptable appraisal reports. ASA candidates, like Coyne, must have a four-year college degree (or the equivalent), a minimum of five years of full-time appraisal experience (or the equivalent), and must adhere to the ASA's Principles of Appraisal Practice and Code of Ethics, and to USPAP. AM candidates, like Kent, must meet the same qualifications and a minimum of two years of full-time appraisal experience. But it doesn't end there. As required by the Appraisal Foundation, ASA members must complete USPAP course work and qualify for mandatory recertification every five years. As Coyne and Kent know, professionalism is a work in progress. Thanks, gentlemen and congratulations!
P.S. The holiday cocktail party was "a wonderful success" thanks to the efforts of Lynn Magnusson, ASA and her staff at Personal Property Consultants and the Harding Gallery.
