The Chapter 73 Newsletter is written by the President of the Chapter for its members. This edition was written by new President, Jane Muranyi, ASA. ASA Chapter Newsletter

President's Message

For my term of office, I have two major goals. The first is to establish an independent Chapter 73 Education Fund so that members may take better advantage of the educational programs offered at ASA. The second is to make sure ASA is recognized throughout New Jersey as the logo of experienced professional appraisers who value all types of property. We want those who hire appraisers, particularly New Jersey attorneys, to use ASA appraisers. While we market ASA we will market the professional valuation services of our members as well.

Chapter Website
Our most important marketing tool is our Chapter 73 Website, www.asanj.com. Our website won the top honor at the International ASA Convention in Tampa. Bravo Tim and Dr. Lou! Tim Griffith worked closely with Lou Bruno, a former Columbia University professor and award-winning President of Louis J. Bruno, Inc. Lou has earned a reputation for creating "websites that work." He is well known at ASA for his contributions to Newsline and for designing the websites of other NY and CA chapters. Also he has designed personal websites for ASA appraisers in all disciplines, and for a wide range of non-appraisal professionals. Every member should check out our website at least twice a month. It is the source for all chapter news and information. After the September Newsletter, which will be our last, it will be the only source for news and information. Notify us of your changes -- new office, new position, awards won etc. (Send the news to me, Jane Muranyi, Chapter President, and I will see that it is included here, but to update your membership record, use the links above.)

ASA Tampa Conference
The International ASA Conference was a great success. The programs organized for all attendees and for specific disciplines were pertinent and well delivered. We also had a lot of fun. For Chapter 73, it was a special convention because one of ours, John J. Connolly III, retired as International President. He had a successful term of office, highlighted by refocused fiscal matters and reorganization. We members have improved services that give us a much better website, faster referrals to potential clients, easier record-keeping for reaccreditation, and improved marketing of ASA and professional appraisal services. ASA has attracted more international members, and for the first time some POV classes will be given in Spanish. At the end of a conference, one assesses whether or not it was worth taking time away from the office and if was worth the expense. It was! The networking alone justified the expense of attending. Members should know we have others in our chapter who serve at ASA's national level: Paul Roberts, Carmen Brown and Kal Barrow.

Self-Development
This year I hope many members will become more active. First, plan to fulfill your designation requirements. Our mentors will help. For instance, a meeting will be held within the next six weeks for personal property Candidates. Fran Zeman, head of the Personal Property Committee, will come and review the requirements and process to earn an ASA or AM. Call your discipline mentor for advice and support.

Volunteering Doesn't Hurt
Volunteer for a project. We understand that everyone is afraid if they volunteer for anything, it means taking on an extensive undertaking. A project is a limited engagement. It doesn't require a year-long commitment. The chapter will benefit from brief projects, and members will have a chance to get to know one another.

Seminar Suggestions Welcome
Do you have a seminar suggestion or a program topic? By October 15, we need a proposed site for our annual Regional Meeting to be held in late April. It is our chapter's turn to host this spring event, and we want a meeting that will appeal to various disciplines, be located in an interesting and accessible place, and offer generous hospitality. Call Dorothy Nicklus with your ideas, or speak with me at the September meeting.

See you on the 17th,
Jane Muranyi, Chapter 73 President
