What's It Worth?
 Rufino Fernandez, Jr., Chapter 73 President, says:
When we ask "What's it worth?" we're asking for an opinion of value. When the courts want one they swear in an appraiser as an expert witness.
ASA-accredited appraisers make credible witnesses because of their education, experience, and adherence to recognized standards, and because they subscribe to the USPAP code of ethics, established by the Appraisal Foundation.
Their appraisals are accurate (based on sound methodology), reliable (repeatable), and trustworthy (ethical).

Serving Northern New Jersey
The Northern New Jersey Chapter (Chapter 73) of the American Society of Appraisers represents accredited ASA members serving the New Jersey counties of Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex and Union.
Leading Appraisal Organization
The American Society of Appraisers is the nation's oldest and largest interdisciplinary appraisal organization. Founded in 1936 and incorporated in 1952, the ASA includes specialists in all types of tangible and intangible property, both real and personal.
Professional Achievement: Lifetime Membership
 The ASA Board of Governors has unanimously approved outgoing Chapter 73 President -- our current First Vice President -- Kal Barrow, ASA for Life Membership in ASA. Life Membership is awarded in recognition of outstanding contributions to the Society and to the valuation profession. A past Chairperson of ASA's International Publications Committee and its International Public Relations Committee, Kal is currently Vice-Chair for Machinery & Technical Specialties of the Board of Examiners. The President of Barrow Appraisal Associates in Edison, NJ, Kal is also a member of the ASA Speaker's Bureau and its Publication and Editorial Review Board. A popular instructor, speaker and author for ASA and other organizations, Kal's long and meritorious service has helped elevate the status of the appraisal profession. Thanks Kal, and congratulations!
Professional Achievement: Certification
 Congratulations too to our new Chapter 73 President, Rufino Fernandez, Jr., J.D., ASA. A principal and business valuation appraiser at Aronson & Fernandez PA in Livingston, NJ, Rufion has recently achieved certification as an Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA). Rufino's ASA certification is a mark both of individual achievement and of assurance to his clients. The certification is based on appraisal education, experience, intensive written and verbal examinations, and submission of acceptable appraisal reports. ASA candidates must have a four-year college degree (or the equivalent), a minimum of five years of full-time appraisal experience (or the equivalent), and must adhere to the ASA's Principles of Appraisal Practice and Code of Ethics, and to USPAP. But it doesn't end there. As required by the Appraisal Foundation, ASA members must complete USPAP course work and qualify for mandatory recertification every five years. As Rufino knows, professionalism is a work in progress. Thanks, Rufino and congratulations!

The Northern New Jersey Chapter is large and growing, with more than 60 full members and over 40 active candidate members -- who have met their Ethics and USPAP requirements -- and that doesn't include pending applicants.
